Leading Goalkicker to play on

Jim Batten to play onIt takes some passion and perhaps guts to play Aussie Rules Footy at times. For many though its the post game trials that bring the toughest moments, the aches, the bruises, the sore knees and shoulders. But when the game gets in your blood that fades away quickly after a few days and is replaced with more hunger for the next chance play this exciting game.

Jim Batten of the Midtown Bombers leading goalkicker in the Fall 2006 season goes through those feelings and emotions often and despite the hard knocks and the bruises will be coming back in Spring to again taste some of the thrills of Aussie Rules Football in Atlanta.

That is great news for his Midtown Bombers teamates for believe it or not Batten who recently passed his half century in birthday cakes, is still playing like a 20 year old. Sure the blistering speed is little down graded, but the judgement, hand and foot skills have not faltered.

Roswell's Sach wins MVP

Roswell's Hugo Sach capped a great end to the Fall 2006 season for Roswell Sach wins MVPand himself by winning the AARFL MVP award Saturday night at the Pratt Industries 2006 Atlanta Kookaburras Awards Night. Sach polled an amazing 17 votes from a possible 18 and streeted the field early with multiple "best on" performances.

Second in the count was Druid Hills' Marc Buhaj and just behind him was Midtown's Damien Sheehan.

Team awards were also handed out with Roswell's going to Irish import Johnny O'Sullivan and Druid Hills to Marc Buhaj. Midtowns went to first year player Wayne Mitchell and Decatur's to Tim Roberson who was thrown into unfamilar onball duties due to the teams lack of experience.

Roswell cause upset and take the AARFL title

Roswell did what was maybe unthinkable earlier in the Roswell Rebels Winseason, beat Druid Hills and also took the Premiership title as AARFL champions for Fall 2006.  The Rebels hit the front early and in a thrilling game were able to keep their noses in front all day to run out deserved winners by 25 points. The game was one full on game of Aussie Rules Footy with plenty of "hard ball gets" and thrilling " bone crunching tackles".

The other Round 6 game went to Midtown who saved some face and finished the season with two great wins easily accounting for Decatur

Week 6 Preview

We its all come down to one game as Druid Hills and Roswell do battle to see who is the Premier team in the AARFL for Fall 2006. Both teams from all accounts will have a full team to take the field in what is no doubt going to be the highlight of the season. Druid Hills have been the benchmark team of the competition all season with their relentless run on style of game and their agility around the packs. Roswell on the other hand have been the steady improvers after a narrow win in round one they have progressed well and have been playing some good footy of late.

There will be several key players as always providing a huge influence on the result of the game. Druid Hills star in Marc Buhaj will take a big hand along with his teamates Alan Mobley, Ben Crist and Brent Kewley. For Roswell Hugo Sach will certainly be the focal point with Justin Diamond, old timer Wayne Kraska and Thad Sheffield chipping in to help.

Bombers win in thriller to set up huge finale

The Midtown Bombers caused the upset of the year by defeating the Druid Hillls Highlanders this morning in perfect conditions for football. The Bombers got out to a handy lead early and had to fend of a huge finish by Druid Hills in the last quarter to hold on for a thrilling win. Trailing by 33 points at the last change the Highlanders gave everything and came within 5 points before they ran out of time.

In the Decatur v Roswell game the result was over before it started with Decatur failing to get the regulation amount of players there in time to prevent forfeiting. The resultant pick up game was a nice training run for the Rebels as they look towards a crack at the title next week in the final round.

Midtown Bombers                  2.4     8.5     13.8      16.10   (106)
Druid Hills Highlanders          2.4     3.5      8.5        15.6     (96)

Roswell Rebels                      8.1    16.3    19.5      23.6    (144)
Decatur Devils                       3.2      3.4      7.6        9.9      (63)
