Fall 2007 Round 5 Report Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 November 2007

The Round 5 games of the Fall 2007 Atlanta Australian Rules Football League saw the first forfeit of the season and surprisingly it was from the top team. Decatur could not muster enough players to form a team under the rules of the competition so forfeited their game to Druid Hills. In replace of this game the teams played a pick up game to give every one who did attend a run.

The teams lined up pretty much as they would normally just with Druid Hills lending the Decatur squad a few players to even out the numbers. The Devils though, the ones that were there played well enough to show why they were on top of the table. Wayne Kraska and Warren Ballagh each kicking a lot straighter this week with 10 goals between them.

For Druid Hills it was Alan Mobley under a health cloud still playing well kicking a few goals as did Dave "Disco" Monsour. Andreas Shoredits played well for both teams actually, kicking some handy goals early when having a quarter with the Decatur sqaud. Adam Grist was doing well also surprising a few with his leap in the ruck contests. In the end a good hit out for all that were there and despite the scores below the records show it as a 60-0 win for Druid Hills.

Decatur Devils               16.8. (104)
Druid Hills Highlanders     6.6.  (42)

Best Players:

Decatur - Kraska, Ballagh, Clark, Strangis
Druid Hills - Shoredits, Mobley, Grist, Eckman

Midtown v Roswell

The later game saw the winless Roswell Rebels take on Springs Premiers the Midtown Bombers. It was to be the Damien Sheehan and Curtis Jones show though for most of the game as they dominated through midfield. The Bombers started with a six goal first term with Jones launching some of his runs from the backline and James Glenn sneaking through three of his own. For Roswell they rolled out a few more new recruits and the signs are looking good for them. Frost bobbed up with a nice goal early and Nick Micklovski kicked a handy goal to give the Rebels some reward for their efforts. At the first break though they were down 2.1 to 6.2.

The second term saw some even better play from the new Roswell players with Micklovski kicking two more and Brent Kewley getting one of his rare goals. Their endeavor certainly wasnt lacking and with some more experience the boys from the north are going to be tough to beat down the track. Down the other end though there was no stopping Glenn & Jones. Curtis Jones playing another blinder slammed on 4 goals from 5 tries and Jimmy Glenn chipped in for another couple. Plenty of supply coming from Sheehan who was happy to hover through midfield most of the game. At the half it was Midtown 12.3 to Roswell 5.1

The third term and the supply up forward didnt stop for the Bombers. Jimmy Glenn kicked Midtown's entire score of 4.2 helped along by Heffernan and Sheehan. Bobby Connor kicked his first goal in Aussie Rules footy for Roswell and Frost added another to build some nice respectability to their score.

Last term and it was like the Midtown boys decided it was someone elses turn as Dan Heffernan added a career best 5 goals for the quarter. Curtis Jones chipped in for another two and Shane Warmsley was rewarded for his solid game with a major!. Midtown ran their opponents around a bit and showed the Decatur boys they will need to play well next week to pry the trophy away from senore' Batten. Midtown with an eight goal last quarter as the Roswell boys could only look on.

Midtown winners by 102 points but Roswell certainly having a red hot go and showing a lot more improvement each week.
