The Midtown Bombers turned around their lack luster start to the fall AARFL season on Saturday morning with a huge win over the Roswell Rebels. In full flight from the first bounce the Bombers thrashed an undermanned Rebels team who must now regroup even though they are still two wins ahead of the Bombers on the ladder. The Bombers first quarter on Saturday set the tone for the day as they kicked 6.9 to nil to lead by 45 points at the first break. Russ Barner was again the standout for the Bombers and combination with Ed Robinson and Eric Baker up forward the Bombers tore the league leaders apart in no uncertain terms.
The Rebels were never in the hunt after the first quarter and missing key players like leading goalkicker Carl Garafalo due to illness and Brent Kewley and Wayne Kraska due to other commitments it was a dreary day for the hopeful Premiers. The Bombers added another 3.7 to Roswell's one goal in the second term, inaccurate kicking certainly preventing a total wash out of the game before half time. At the main break though the Bombers lead by 70 to 9. In the second half Midtown added 11 goals to 5 with fall debuts of Dave Monsour and James Glenn adding 6 goals to the total. The only player not to join in the goalkicking frenzy for Midtown was Captain Curtis Jones who ended up with just 6 behinds to his name. Russ Barner took home the Georgia Down Under BOG award with another fine display in the ruck. The final margin a whooping of 101 points for the Rebels and a 'back from the brink' scenario for the Midtown Bombers. The win for Midtown now means they only need to win their last two games and the title could still be theirs. Interesting times to come in the next two games after the holidays. Roswell Rebels 0.0 1.3 4.3 6.4 (40) Midtown Bombers 6.9 9.16 14.17 20.21 (141)
