Chastain v Sandy Springs

The scheduled second game of the AARFL Women's division had an even worse turnout than the first game. This time, the number of players who showed up was truly abysmal, resulting in neither team having enough players for an official game, and a double forfeit. There weren't even enough players to have an unofficial practice match like last week. The few women who did show up joined in on the make-shift co-ed game that was arranged after one of the men's teams had to forfeit, as well. Thanks to those ladies that did come out -- now let's work on getting your teammates out next time!

Midtown Bombers              1.1    3.3    4.4      8.4   (52)
Roswell Rebels                  6.2  11.4  16.6  22.12  (144)

Report:

After their first loss last week at the hands of the Druid Hills Highlanders, the Roswell Rebels were looking for someone to lay a beating on this week, and the Midtown Bombers were up. Both teams barely scraped by with the minimum number of players for an official game, especially Midtown, who had a couple of last-minute withdrawals from their side. Roswell wasn't in a mood to be sympathetic, however, as they fed the ball to Wayne Kraska at full forward repeatedly, resulting in five goals to "Krazz", and a quarter-time lead to Roswell of 6.2.38, to Midtown's 1.1.7.

Midtown managed twice as much scoring in the second with a goal from Greg Frost and Jim Batten's second, but Roswell just kept pouring it on. With Krazz taking a breather on the bench, Mike Frost stepped up to contribute two goals, along with one each from Marty Hyder and Johnny O'Sullivan, to make the halftime lead 11.4.70 to 3.3.21. The third term was much like the first, as the Bombers again could only kick 1.1, while Krazz was back at full forward for the Rebels, kicking three goals, helped out by one each from O'Sullivan and Justin Diamond. The three quarter time siren sounded with the score Roswell 16.6.102 to Midtown 4.4.28.

In the fourth quarter, Midtown finally kicked more than two goals, as Batten added three more to finish with five on the day, and Curtis Jones put in his second. But Roswell answered with six more of their own, including three more to Krazz, who finished with an incredible twelve goals, another to O'Sullivan, and Frost's fourth, plus Hugo Sach's lone goal of the game. Sach was a dominant player for Roswell in the midfield, and probably could have scored many goals himself, but rather than taking long shots at goal coming out of the midfield, preferred to instead play unselfishly and pass the ball off to players closer to goal. Full time scores: Roswell 22.12.144, Midtown 8.4.52.

MIDTOWN:
Goals: Batten (5), Jones (2), Frost
Best: Jones, Heffernan, Batten, Frost

ROSWELL:
Goals: Kraska (12), Frost (4), O'Sullivan (3), Diamond, Hyder, Sach
Best: Sach, Kraska, Diamond,  Frost, O'Sullivan

Decatur Devils                     (0)*-forfeit
Druid Hills Highlanders       (60)

Report:

The second game of the day resulted in the first forfeit of the season. Due to a combination of players out of town, injured, and with work commitments, the Decatur Devils could not get the minimum number of players to the ground for an official game, thus handing an automatic 10-goal victory to the Druid Hills Highlanders, as per league rules. The record books will record a 10.0.60 to 0.0.0 victory to the still undefeated Highlanders, but an "unofficial" co-ed practice match was played in it's place, as the few women who turned up for the earlier not played, double-forfeit women's game, along with about half of the Roswell and Midtown players who wanted to play some more footy, suited up for the two teams.

As this was an unofficial "scratch" match, individual scoring was not recorded. Druid Hills jumped out to a big lead in the early going of the first quarter, but led by Andrew Beh, playing his first game of the season, Decatur stormed back late, to end the quarter behind only by a goal, 5.4.34 to 4.4.28. Druid Hills showed why they are the class of the league in the second, scoring 5.1, while holding Decatur to only 2 behinds, to double Decatur's score and lead at the main break 10.5.65 to 4.6.30. The Devils tried to claw their way back into the game in the third term, outscoring the Highlanders by a goal, but not putting much of a dent in the deficit, as the quarter ended with Druid Hills leading 12.7.79, to Decatur's 7.8.50.

It was more of the same in the final quarter, as Decatur was more accurate kicking for goal, and outscored Druid Hills 2.3 to 1.4, but it was just not enough, as Druid Hills led all the way from the first score of the game and were never seriously threatened, running out 13.11.89 to 9.11.65 winners.

BEST:
Decatur - Beh, Whooley, Poole, Stein
Druid Hills - Buhaj, Lucy, Mobley, Rotell, Ciganek
