The spring AARFL season kicks off in what should be an interesting 6 rounds of games. The fall competition really heated up when it came down to the last game between eventual champions Roswell against the team that had set the standard all season Druid Hills. Roswell got up to win that game and the title in a game that could only be described as super competitive. So what's install for 2007 and the Spring season? Well there have been a few players moving around from team to team and from the free clinics over the past weeks there are certainly plenty of new players ready to take up the challenge. Druid Hills look to be relying on last seasons squad mainly. Marc Buhaj looks like traveling to the UK soon so he will be a loss. Pete Eckman has however transferred over from Decatur last year where he played just one game. Ross Larossa also played just one game last season before breaking his hand and he will be a handful for any team to match up on this season. These two players alone may make Druid Hills the team to beat again.
Roswell seem to have recruited more players. Several younger players coming with Greg Frost from Midtown to play with his brother Mick and some local players in the Roswell area coming back to play like Tim Monkhouse and Scott Rogers. This means they will have numbers to field teams each week, even though that was never a problem last year with their whole squad nearly turning up each week. Decatur look to be on survival mode again. they have picked up the ever young Wayne Kraska to lead them. But he will be needed with the loss of Sullivan, Whooley and Roberson all not playing. With Reid Tankersley having rugby commitments most of the season its hard to see Decatur making much impression on the proceedings. This leaves the Midtown Bombers. The Bombers appear to have again recruited well. News is there Aussie contingent will be stronger than ever with Ed Robertson signing on. With the likes of Batten, Jones, Heffernan, Cave and with former Port Adelaide & Carlton star Damien 'Dogger' Sheehan there is much to like about their line up. News about former Kookaburras Captain Coach Brent Bacon pulling on the boots again makes for an impressive array of talent. Not a lot of youth but plenty of talent. So the tip is Midtown to be the benchmark, followed closely by Druid Hills, Roswell and Decatur bringing up the rear again. All goes well for a great season of Aussie Footy right here in Atlanta. See you out there.
