Week 2 Preview for Spring 2007 Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

Straight into week two this Saturday and despite two big winning margins last week this week might be a little closer, and I did say a little.. Druid Hills hit the ground running literally last week and will face the rebuilding Decatur Devils. Decatur despite losing a few players from last year which they couldn’t really afford, are hanging in there with some fresh faces but certainly a new enthusiasm. Probably new team leader Wayne Kraska will be heavily relied upon again as he appeared the only player able to finish off last week but there are rumors some other talented players may appear this week for the Devils.

Druid Hills although small in numbers are big in talent and fitness as well. Mobley, Kewley & Crist alone have huge Kookaburras experience and are also three of the fittest players in the comp. With Ciagnek improving, Eckman and in the wings the talent of Lucy, Buhaj and Larossa waiting, they have the potential again to keep winning these early games. One has to lean again to Druid Hills this week to keep the winless Decatur’s record intact for the past year.

The other game will see the two teams with the larger squads play off. Roswell impressive in number last week were not so flash on the field. Their new recruits inexperience and the general teams lack of agility was found wanting against Druid Hills, which by the way was no disgrace but its not going to be any easier this week. A lot will fall to last years MVP Hugo Sach again for Roswell but like last week his impact may be lessened by his opponents.

Midtown however looked in auto pilot last week. With 7-8 players at 6' or more they are going to be a handful to control at any time. Ed Robinson, Brent Bacon and Damien Sheehan in any forward fifty is enough to give any state team nightmares never mind a developing local team from the AARFL. Add Curtis Jones and the power of new kid on the block Resean Hodge and its 'all over red rover'. So its looking like the Bombers are picking up the pieces from a disappointing 2006 season and looking the goods early.

If the two predictions go to plan that will set up for a big showdown on the 17th after the weeks break. But maybe thats us getting ahead of ourselves. Should be a great day of footy this week. See you out there.
