Week 3 Spring 2007, who will it be? Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 March 2007

Its the game the whole of Atlanta is talking about, well anyone connected with these two teams anyway. Druid Hills the ever quick and fit runners up from 2006 face the every young and improved Midtown for the top of the ladder kudos and confirmed favoritism for the AARFL Premiership title.

Both teams have been untroubled in their first two games with plenty of high scoring and quality play. Its easy to say also it might just come down to who turns up to play. Druid Hills squad has been small but ultra consistent, you can take a look at the goal kicking table to see they have the goal kicking potential to kick a winning score. Midtown are sort of the glamour squad of the competition with a little twist. With highly experienced players the likes of Brent Bacon, Ed Robinson, Curtis Jones and not to forget Damien Sheehan they could line up with one of the best local teams seen in Atlanta. With the experienced Greg Cave back in town and Heffernan with his first game under his belt last week there is a lot to like about them.

More bonuses for the Bombers is their newer players the likes of Jennings and the Hodge brothers are having a nice impact on games already. Under the experienced eye of Jim Batten and team Captain Curtis Jones we can be assured all players will be well drilled and prepared for whatever Druid Hills can serve up.

Druid Hills might have a few smokeys up their sleeve as well this week to keep things very interesting. One whisper is Ross Larossa returning to the team this week and he will make a difference. Larossa is a classy player that can also kick goals when needed and big Brian Lucy seen training impressively Tuesday night will walk straight into their ruckmens slot and make an impact.

So whats the tip? Both these teams have been more than impressive the first two weeks and play different styles of games. Druid Hills the running game, Midtown the taller long kicking game with 7-8 players 6' tall or more thats going to be tough for Druid Hills to handle. Midtown though certainly with all hands on deck get the nod to head the ladder into the second half of the season.

In the other game both Decatur and Druid Hills will be looking for their first win. Decatur have picked up a few handy recruits in Baker and Williams and Beh and Kraska will be relied upon to kick the main part of the score. Roswell have not been able to recapture their 2006 form yet but with a solid attendance could certainly take this game away. Still to appear from last year is Gilkey and Sheffield, a forward and backman that will make Decatur's job difficult if they play. But lets give the IFs a miss and say on form Decatur can win their first game since 2005.
