Bombers looking to be Premiers again Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 April 2007

The Midtown Bombers are looking to again be the most successful AARFL team on record by securing their third Premiership title this Saturday at Dekalb Memorial Park. In this the 5th year of local competition in Atlanta the Roswell Rebels are the only other team to have won the cup with two wins just like the Bombers. Midtown this season though have hardly set a foot wrong winning all 5 games, many by large margins.

Their opponents this week still have chance to upset the Premiership favorites even if its a slim chance. The Druid Hills Highlanders came within reach of the Bombers last time they met however to capture the title this Saturday Druid Hills will need to defeat Midtown by around 40 points. To most that would seem a task beyond them.

Lining up the teams head to head is still no easy task.

Midtown are tall and strong whilst Druid Hills are small fast and very fit. Druid Hills are going to have to be right on their game to combat the fire power and long kicking style of play of their opponents. Ben Crist and Alan Mobley have been the catalysts this season for Druid Hills and with the talented Ross Larossa hitting form when it counts you know they are going to be right there.

Midtown will have different ideas. Their ability to kick long goals from Robinson & Sheehan and the accuracy of Batten will ensure they will always have the scoreboard ticking over. The Hodge brothers will be handful again and with new recruits Jennings and McLellan plus the likes of Cave, Bacon & Heffernan there seems too many guns fior the Highlanders to silence. So the tip is Midtown to go undefeated in Spring 2007 and again become the most successful club in the AARFL's history.

Other games on the weekend will feature Decatur v Roswell plus round two of the women's competition between Chastain and Sandy Springs. Roswell will be looking to regain some pride and win their first game of the year. Seeing Hugo Sach taking the field for Roswell will for sure help that cause as he has been sorely missed the last few weeks. Decatur have been steady this year but not overly impressive, playing well in some quarters and letting it slip in others. No tip for this game other than it will be close.

In the Women's game a close result is surely on the cards again. Sandy Springs will look for Christensen and Mitchell to again set things up but will be missing the talented Judith Stein. Chastain victorious last week will be hoping Peoples, Murdock and Powell will again work hard for success and lead the way. Sandy Springs can turn it around though this week and make the series 1-1.

See you at the games and the social, $10 for all that beer, should be a great night.
