Decatur Devils 1.3 3.4 3.6 8.8 (56) Druid Hills Highlanders 2.1 6.3 12.6 17.7 (109) MATCH REPORT In perfect conditions for footy Decatur looked to try and grab another win for the season whilst Druid Hills probably had in the back of their minds they have bigger fish to fry next week. Regardless a nice size crowd witnessed a very entertaining game. Returning for Druid Hills was Brian Lucy in the ruck and he had an immediate impact feeding the lively Ross Larossa in the center. Andy Beh trying hard for the Devils and certainly appeared to have the better of Lucy around the ground. The first term was a fairly even tussle with only the three goals scored. Decatur like a few times before having as much of the ball but missing valuable chances up forward. At the first break it was slender 4 point margin to the Highlanders. The second term saw Druid Hills start to put the foot on the gas. Mobley who has run hard from the backline all year was a clear winner down there again and with Kewley and Eckman they set up many opportunities for the forwards like Ben Crist and Dale Bartlett. Decatur were looking a little slow at times and at half time they trailed by 17 points. The quarter that counts the most they say was certainly all Druid Hills today. They slammed on 6 unanswered goals for the third term with Larossa and Crist running amok forward of half back and Mobley cleaning up the rest. Decatur had no answer to the Highlanders open running style of play and at the last change the game was heading for a blow out. Perhaps next week and a shot at the title was in the back of the minds of Druid Hills as in the last term they let slip a great chance to consolidate their percentage. Although kicking 5 goals themselves they let Decatur in for 5 as well with Kraska and Beh not giving in. In the end a very tidy 54 point win to Druid Hills however giving them at least a shot at the glory next week. DRUID HILLS Best- Larossa, Mobley, Crist, Kewley, Lucy Goals- Bartlett 4, Larossa 3, Mobley 3, Crist 3, Eckman 2, Kewley & Lucy 1 each.
DECATUR Best- Beh, Kraska, Stevens, Monkhouse, Stein Goals - Beh 4, Kraska 2, Powers & Stevens 1 each. Midtown Bombers 5.2 10.6 16.9 23.13 (151) Roswell Rebels 1.0 3.0 3.2 3.3 (21) MATCH REPORT In the second match it was top versus bottom with Midtown taking all the spoils so far this season and Roswell having a complete turn around from 2006 when they were Premiers. The Bombers have their sights set we are sure on going through the year undefeated and certainly were not going to take it easy today. Whats more they had a percentage to protect. It was that man Jennings in the ruck again for Midtown that started it all, a handy recruit he has become with his great leap and rucking skills very nice to see in a debut season. With Sheehan and Robinson starting off well there was little hope Roswell were going to get into the game at all. At the first break the writing was on the wall already with Midtown kicking 5 goals to 1. Roswell younger players certainly put a lot of effort in and thats great to see. With some more experience the likes of Frost, Groves and Grier are certainly going to have a bigger impact on game results. Back officially after bobbing up in the scrimmage last week was Anthony 'Tonza' Ellis. Amazingly he was played forward when in past years he has been the 'general' in the Atlanta Kookaburras backline. With the flow of the ball limited into the Rebels forward line Ellis was to have very few chances to make his mark. But his high flying and bustling aggression for the ball was nice to see just the same. Roswell managed two goals for the quarter but up the other end Midtown seemed to be doing as they pleased. 'Dogger' Sheehan kicking goals from inside the center square was a delight to watch and with brothers Resean and Rashad Hodge looking a little more polished each week the Bombers were making every post a winner. Bombers were 45 point leaders at half time. That was about it for Roswell unfortunately as after half time the class of Midtown just was too much. Midtown piled on 13 more goals for the half without reply from Roswell. Justin Diamond was a great tryer for Roswell but they sorely missed 2006 MVP Hugo Sach who was out with injury. Diamond with Mick Frost had too many holes to fill. Batten came on for his normal cameo role taking some handy grabs up forward for Midtown and kicked four goals whilst Curtis Jones just played the perfect half of footy in the backline not giving the Rebels a sniff. The Hodge boys finished with 2 goals a piece in a great display and yet another new recruit in Andy McClellan finished with three goals after some solid marks close to goal. The recruits of Midtown in Spring 2007 certainly have had a huge impact on these games and hats off to the Midtown Bombers for that. At the last blow of the 'horn' it was a 130 point for the Premiership favorites sending league stats man Marty Hyder heading for the records books. ROSWELL Best- Diamond, M Frost, H Frost, Groves Goals- Groves, Diamond, Ellis 1 each.
MIDTOWN Best- Jennings, Sheehan, Jones, Heffernan, McClellan Goals - Batten 4, Sheehan 4, Jennings 3, McClellan 3, Heffernan 2, Rn. Hodge 2, Rd.Hodge 2, Jones 2, Robinson 1.
