Druid Hills Highlanders 3.5 6.7 13.11 14.14 (98) MATCH REPORT The start of the AARFL spring season for 2007 was to be a rematch of last years deciding game between Roswell and Druid Hills. Over the winter break Druid Hills hadnt made any ground in recruiting players that was noticeable whilst Roswell had several new younger players taking the field for the first time. The weather was kind which all players appreciated after a few nasty weeks of cold temps around Atlanta. Druid Hills could only muster a small squad for their first game and this was going to be a telling point in the game. With a strong line up of 4 regular Kookaburras players their skill and certainly fitness level was evident early. Ben Crist looked decidely in good form for the first game and with the help of the quiet acheiver in Brent Kewley there wasnt ever going to be any easy ball for the Roswell team to use. Hugo Sach shouldered a lot of the Rebels load with Justin Diamond trying to mop up where ever he could but it was tough going for the reigning champs. At the first break it was a small but handy 16 pt lead to Druid Hills. The second term didn't change things. Druid Hills doubled their goal tally with three goals. The running game of Alan Mobley and Crist too much for the inexperienced Roswell line up to handle. Mick Frost was trying hard for the Rebels as was first timer Larry Groves. At the main break it was Druid Hills pulling away to a 28 pt lead. The third term was all Druid Hills as they carved up their opponents with tons of running and equal amounts of skill. Mobley on target for the first time in memory added several goals to the tally as did Crist as Druid Hills piled on 7 goals 4 behinds and kept Roswell scoreless. The last term Roswell saved some face kicking two goals to one but it was all too late to save them from a 68 point loss and rough start to their season in the hope of back to back titles. Credit to Roswell they kept at it all game and their younger players will be much better for the run but they have a few hurdles to overcome to regain their 2006 form. Druid Hills however still missing some quality players look like taking a major part in the 2007 Spring season. ROSWELL
Decatur Devils 0.1 2.4 3.5 5.5 (35) MATCH REPORT: Decatur was soon on the defensive as the game started with Ed Robinson and Damien Sheehan dominating the center area. Decatur relying on veteran Wayne Kraska, the likes of Mike Powers and first game out of retirement since 2001 Tim Monkhouse were soon finding it tough to keep up. Goals seem to come easy for the Midtown team with 4 for the quarter where the Devils despite going forward a few times were only able to post a single behind the for term. Not much different in the second term either as the Bombers started to use their bench. Brent Bacon up forward with Andy McLellan playing his first game the Bombers have their fare share of tall players. Add to that the debut of Adam Jennings and it was clear Decatur were not going to get back into the game in a hurry. At the main break it was Midtown by 47pts. The third term was actually won by Decatur keeping the Bombers goalless was a feather in their cap. Though the Bombers inaccurate kicking for goal with 7 behinds perhaps made it a little easier. The final term saw Midtown open up again and at time play some classy footy moving the ball quickly and importantly sharing the ball well as they went down the field into attack. At the final whistle it was a comprehensive 69 point victory. Definitely a sign of things to come for the Bombers who looked ultra impressive. DECATUR MIDTOWN
